Cellular and molecular biology of the neuron
The research of several groups at IN aims at studying the main structural and functional features of the distinct neuronal regions , the cell body, the dendrites, the axon, and the axon terminals. The cell biology processes that support neuronal functions, including receptor and channel sorting processes, protein trafficking to axon and dendrites, and their localization to the plasma membrane are investigated at the molecular level by several IN researchers. The structural features that are unique to neurons and the types of electrical signals that neurons use to process and transmit information are investigated by several groups of the Institute.
