14/05/2021 News: The role of mirror mechanism in the recovery, maintenance, and acquisition of motor abilities

A recent review titled “The role of mirror mechanism in the recovery, maintenance, and acquisition of motor abilities” has just been published on the journal Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Review (authors: Giacomo Rizzolatti, Maddalena Fabbri Destro, Arturo Nuara, Roberto Gatti, Pietro Avanzini, CNR-IN, Parma). This review discusses the state-of-the art on the potential of Action Observation Treatment (AOT) in a wide range of human activities, spanning from neurorehabilitation to new motor skills acquisition. Setting this promising approach into the neurophysiological framework of mirror mechanism could guide the optimization of current AOT treatments as well as the development of new training strategies based on action observation.
