The mission of the CNR Neuroscience Institute (IN) is to promote the comprehensive knowledge of structural and functional aspects of the nervous system and to encourage the application of scientific knowledge to the development of therapeutic approaches for diseases of the nervous system. To reach these aims, IN researchers exploit a multidisciplinary approach including cellular and molecular biology, physiology, developmental biology, pharmacology and genetics. The staff includes more than 80 researchers. IN hosts a large number of young scientists with different types of education (biology, medical science, physics, engineering). About 20% of PhD students and 10% of postdoctoral researcher are from foreign countries (Europe, United States, Australia, Asia). All IN sections are either integrated or strictly connected with high-profile academic institutions (University of Milan, Pisa, Padua, Cagliari, Florence, Parma, Trent, L’Aquila, Humanitas University, Scuola Normale Superiore, Scuola Superiore di Studi Universitari e di Perfezionamento Sant' Anna) and the staff is actively involved in PhD programs in Molecular Medicine, Neurobiology and Biotechnology. The Institute has a robust and fruitful interaction with private research institutions, such as the Venetian Institute of Molecular Medicine, and with clinical institutes (IRCCS Stella Maris, IRCSS Humanitas, San Raffaele Hospital, Padua Hospital).
